Well, it’s taken a while – like six years – but reports are circulating that Apple users have finally begun receiving their slice of the “batterygate” settlement – the one precipitated by the company being accused of slowing down older phone models to increase sales.
Why so long? According to Gizmodo, the deadline to file a claim was Oct. 6th, 2020 and open to any person who owned an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, or iPhone SE.
The payouts for people whose claims were approved before October 2020 are about $92, but some consumers got a little greedy and applied for more than one settlement check, like the iPhone user who admitted he got six payouts.
That, on top of the millions of claims that were filed, threw things out of whack and the process was paused until everything got worked out. But now, full speed ahead.

If you missed out on this settlement, there's another one still alive and well. Details were recently released about Apple's settlement over its Family Sharing feature and you have until March of 2024 to apply for your cut of the settlement.
