Ukraine may have to give up land as part of a peace deal with Russia, Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, has told the BBC. His comments have come after a growing pressure on Ukraine from US President Donald Trump to accept territorial concessions. "One of the scenarios is… to give up territory. It's not fair. But for the peace, temporary peace, maybe it can be a solution, temporary," he said. The former boxing champion-turned politician was speaking hours after a Russian missile-and-drone attack on Kyiv killed 12 people and injured more than 80. But the 53-year-old stressed that the Ukrainian people would "never accept occupation" by Russia. Pakistan’s defence minister has told the BBC that India's threat to halt the flow of water from Indian-administered Kashmir would be "an act of war". Speaking to Azadeh Moshiri in Islamabad, Khawaja Muhammad Asif said: "It will be a declaration of war, you know, you are actually depriving us of water, which is our right, which was acknowledged by India, as it is written in that treaty. We want that treaty to stay alive." It comes after India suspended a major treaty governing water sharing of six rivers in the Indus basin between the two countries, following Tuesday's deadly attack in Kashmir in which 26 people died. Mr Asif denied Pakistan was involved in the attack in Pahalgam. The suspension of the water treaty is among several steps India has taken against Pakistan, accusing it of backing cross-border terrorism - a charge Islamabad flatly denies. It has also hit back with reciprocal measures against Delhi. The treaty allocated the three eastern rivers – the Ravi, Beas and Sutlej – of the Indus basin to India, while 80% of the three western ones – the Indus, Jhelum and Chenab – to Pakistan. Rachel Reeves said there were similarities with the way both the US and UK governments had come to power off the back of voter frustration with the economy. Speaking to BBC Economics Editor Faisal Islam ahead of her meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant on Friday, Reeves said the government was working “flat out” to secure a trade deal with the US. President Trump has said he is "not happy" with deadly Russian strikes on Kyiv and that President Vladimir Putin should stop them, in rare criticism of Russia. Mr Trump wrote: "Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP!" in a post on Truth Social, adding: "Let's get the Peace Deal DONE!" Russia’s overnight strikes killed at least eight people and injured 77 more according to local officials. Mr Trump refused to say whether the US is considering placing more sanctions on Russia but warned "things will happen" if the bombings don't end. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said the US could be more forceful with Russia to secure a ceasefire. "We believe that if more pressure is applied to Russia, we'll be able to make our positions closer," Zelensky told reporters on a visit to South Africa. When asked if he would be willing to make any concessions, Zelensky said the fact that Ukraine is prepared to negotiate with Russia is a "huge compromise" and a "ceasefire must be the first step". Trump had accused the Ukrainian leader of harming peace negotiations, after Zelensky said Kyiv would not recognise Russian control of Crimea, the southern peninsula illegally annexed by Russia in 2014.
