"Tariff whiplash, again: Hours after President Trump said he would impose extra heavy tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, the White House reversed course because of a concession from across the border. Both sides backed down after Ontario’s premier, Doug Ford, suspended a surcharge on the province’s electricity exports to Michigan, Minnesota and New York. Instead, Canada will face the same 25 percent tariff as other nations starting on Wednesday. The two countries plan to discuss a “renewed U.S.M.C.A.,” the trade agreement between Canada, Mexico and the United States."

CBC Politics Video: It's 'unrealistic' to get tariffs reversed at Washington meeting: LeBlanc | Power & Politics
Canada has announced another $30 billion worth of tariffs on U.S. imports to come into effect on Thursday, following Wednesday's U.S. tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum. Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc tells Power & Politics he'll be meeting Thursday with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. LeBlanc says though it might be 'unrealistic' for all tariffs to be reversed, he hopes that the meeting will bring the two countries to a position where they can 'lower the temperature' on the trade war. The Power Panel weighs in.

House passes a six-month extension of federal government funding to prevent a government shutdown on Friday, 217-214.
President Donald Trump initially announces a doubling of tariffs on steel and aluminum from Canada from 25% to 50% but rescinds it after Ontario Premier Doug Ford says his previously announced 25% tariff on electricity exported to the U.S. will be suspended while further trade negotiations continue. Dow Jones Industrial Average falls 478 points.
The White House says Elon Musk comments about Social Security and other entitlements being the 'big ones' to find savings only referred to fraud in those programs.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio after meeting with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia announces Ukraine has agreed to a 30 day ceasefire with Russia and the 'ball is in Russia's court'. Secretary Rubio also says the U.S. will resume military intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
NTSB releases a preliminary report on the deadly helicopter and plane collision in January near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and calls for a permanent change in the helicopter routes around that airport after finding a high risk of another collision.

As a follow up to our recent podcast regarding the life and times of Anne Frank, we asked author Alexandra Ritchie to tell us more about the horrors of World War II and Poland. Ritchie, a citizen of Canada, now lives in the city which is the title of her book, Warsaw. Her focus is on 1944 and what was called the Warsaw Uprising. In her introduction, she writes, "Himmler and Hitler had decided that the entire population remaining in one of Europe's great capital cities was to be murdered in cold blood. Himmler referred to Warsaw as the great abscess, which was to be completely destroyed."
