Andrew Young, civil rights leader and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in the Carter Administration. President Biden gets a briefing and gives an update on the response to the wildfires in Los Angeles, announcing the federal government will pay 100 percent of the cost for six month and additional resources being sent by the Defense Department. The Senate advances a bill to provide undocumented immigrants charged with theft-related crimes to be detained. The bill is named for Laken Riley, a college student killed by a Venezuelan migrant who had been arrested for shoplifting. The House passes a bill to impose sanctions on International Criminal Court officials for issuing arrest warrants against the Israeli Prime Minister and former Defense Minister over the war in Gaza. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announces the U.S. will provide another $500 million in military assistance to Ukraine, and with President-elect Trump about to be inaugurated, he urges the coalition of NATO and other nations to continue to support Ukraine in its war against Russia, saying, "The coalition must not flinch. We must hold firm to the bedrock principle that aggression is a sin."
