A Russia government spokesman says there must be an investigation before determining what caused a deadly crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane, but U.S. officials and aviation experts say the evidence is pointing to a Russian anti-aircraft missile, and operators who mistook the civilian plane for a Ukrainian military drone. Russia's Foreign Minister says his country is ready to talk to the incoming Donald Trump administration about potential solutions to the conflict in Ukraine, and he hopes President Trump will understand what he calls the "root causes". President-elect Trump says he will nominate Kevin Marino Cabrera, a Republican commissioner in Miami-Dade County, Florida, as U.S. Ambassador to Panama. This comes after Donald Trump has been threatening Panama to take back the Panama Canal unless there is a reduction in transit fees. We will hear from the nominee on Latin American policy. Marianne Williamson, former Democratic Presidential candidate, launches a campaign to become Democratic National Committee chair, saying, “I want to help people connect with the political issues that are going on in their lives in a very real and personal way." The House Ethics Committee releases its report on former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), concluding that it found “substantial evidence” that Gaetz while in Congress had sex with a 17-year-old girl, “regularly” paid women for sex, and used illegal drugs, including cocaine and ecstasy, in violation of state laws and House rules. President Joe Biden commutes the sentences of 37 out of 40 inmates on federal death row to life in prison without the possibility of parole. “I cannot stand back and let a new administration resume executions that I halted,” President Biden said in the statement. President-elect Donald Trump's spokesperson Steven Cheung called the commutations a “slap in the face” to victims and their families. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) releases his annual Festivus 'Airing of Grievances' report, named after the fictional holiday in the Seinfeld TV series, in which he points out what he says is $1 trillion in wasteful federal spending. Greenland's premier rejects President-elect Donald Trump saying, "United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.” The President-elect also threatens to take back control of the Panama Canal if Panama does not lower shipping transit fees.
