And the Speaker promises the House will not approve a single, massive bill to fund the entire government in December, what he calls a "Christmas omnibus". The Justice Department sues Visa, alleging the company has an illegal monopoly over the U.S. debit card market. Donald Trump in a speech in Savannah, Georgia, promises companies low taxes and fewer regulations if make goods in the U.S, and high tariffs if they do not. The CEO of the Novo Nordisk testifies at a Senate committee hearing on the high price of its weight loss drug Ozempic. Retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre testifies before a House Committee that he did not know that money he received from a nonprofit in Mississippi to help build a sports facility at his college alma mater came from federal welfare funds that should have gone to families in need. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) told reporters Tuesday that he's "not defying" former President Trump after he reversed course and agreed to proceed with a three-month government funding bill that did not include a controversial voting measure the former president demanded. "He and I have been on exactly the same page. I saw a headline, 'I'm defying Trump.' I'm not. I'm not defying President Trump," the speaker said. "He understands fully. President Trump understands the current dilemma and the situation that we're in, and so there's no daylight between us." The speaker tried and failed to pass a six-month continuing resolution (CR) last week that included the SAVE Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote. Mr. Trump had previously urged Republicans to let the government shut down if they couldn't get the measure through. Instead, Speaker Johnson had to pivot to a three-month CR that doesn't include the SAVE Act, and will have to rely on Democratic votes to prevent a lapse in federal funding.

Johnny Cash cemented his place in the U.S. Capitol's National Statuary Hall Collection on Tuesday as a representative of the state of Arkansas. The country icon's bronze statue joins one of Daisy Bates, a civil rights leader and supporter of the Little Rock Nine, that was unveiled in May. The Arkansas state legislature voted in 2019 to replace the state's two previous statues of little-known figures from the 19th century — Uriah Milton Rose, a lawyer from Little Rock, and James P. Clarke, a former governor and senator — with ones of Mr. Cash and Ms. Bates. The unveiling ceremony was attended by members of the Cash family as well as Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R).
