The ConsumerAffairs Datasembly Shopping Cart Index showed price stability

No one would dispute the fact that some grocery items are expensive and still going up. But the May ConsumerAffairs Datasembly Shopping Cart Index shows an encouraging trend its declined slightly for the second straight month.
Datasembly tracks grocery prices in real-time. The Index tracks price movements for 25 commonly purchased grocery items. In May, the total price of those 25 items was $156.35, down slightly from the April Index total of $156.76.
Compared to May 2023, the Shopping Cart Index is up only $1.13.
As in April, there was remarkable price stability in May. Most items were either priced the same as the previous month or had moved up or down by only a penny.
The price of bacon declined by 22 cents from April but is $1.07 higher than May 2023. An 8 oz. bag of potato chips is two cents cheaper than in April but is 17 cents cheaper than in May 2023.
The price of salted butter continues to rise, however. It was $5.96 in May, compared to $5.71 inApril.
