2024 could beat last year's number of Tesla recalls
Tesla is recalling as many as125,227 of its cars because of a faulty seatbelt warning that can increase the risk of injuries during crashes.
The recall affects the 2012-2024 Tesla Model S, the 2015-2024 Tesla Model X, the 2017-2023 Tesla Model 3and the 2020-2023 Tesla Model Y, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Thursday. A software update should fix the problem.
"In the event of an unbelted driver, the seat belt warning light and audible chime may not activate as intended," the NHTSA said."A seat belt warning system that fails to alert occupants of an unbelted seat belt can increase the risk of injury during a crash."
Tesla moved quickly to address the issue. In April, Tesla identified that the seat belt reminder signals didn't chime or display in the 2024 Tesla Model X, investigated and tested other vehicles and decided in May to voluntarily recall the vehicles.
