Super Bowl Sunday will result in many social gatherings to watch the San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs. The cost of providing food and beverages at these Super Bowl parties will be 4.02% more than last year, according to an analysis by Datasembly.
Datasembly has collected more than 12 billion data points from the largest retail data sources. It doesn’t use weighted averages but actual pricing from both brick-and-mortar and online stores.
While prices are higher, they are nothing close to the nearly 14% increase that faced party hosts in 2023. A basket of 14 popular party items rang the register at $86.99 as of Feb. 3., compared to $83.63 a year ago.
The basket of items reflects the trend of cooling inflation, except for a couple of key items. Tortilla chips cost 38.29% more than last year. Dip is up nearly 19%. But, how can you have a Super Bowl party with chips and dip?
On the other end of the scale, the price of crackers is up only 1.2%. In a positive development, prices of ice cream, burgers and salsa are actually slightly less than last year.
Datasembly also notes that some fans will pay more than others. Fans in Kansas City will see their party costs rise by 7.2% while hosts in San Francisco will face a modest 3.6% increase. Fans in Las Vegas, where the game will be played, will face an even smaller increase of 3.4%.
