We knew the day was coming, but artificial intelligence (AI) is about to take up residence in our hot little hands.
On January 17, Samsung is beating Apple and Google to the mobile AI punch when it leapfrogs its competition and launches the new Galaxy S series – a move the company says will set “a higher standard for the most intelligent mobile experience yet.”
The reveal will take place at Samsung’s “Unpacked” show in San Jose, an event that will be streamed live on Samsung.com, Samsung Newsroom, and Samsung’s YouTube channel beginning at 10 a.m. PST, 1 p.m. EST, 6 p.m. GMT and 7 p.m. CET.
Why should you care?
In an email to ConsumerAffairs, AI Tool Report’s Martin Crowley and Liam Lawson said that features on the new Samsung device may include on-device AI chatbots (sort of like a smaller, offline ChatGPT), image generation from text prompts, and advanced AI functionalities for text message replies.
“Samsung's focus on AI integration marks a significant step in the smartphone industry as we’ve yet to truly witness a smartphone release solely focused on AI,” Crowley and Lawson wrote.
“Samsung's move to integrate advanced AI in its new phone lineup highlights the growing importance of AI in mobile technology. Perhaps this is the innovation we’ve been waiting for in the smartphone industry?”
Gotta have one?
Samsung is keeping its cards close to its vest regarding prices, but according to X user Spynox, a French-language document has been leaked on the web describing the terms and conditions for a Galaxy S24 series.
TechRadar’s analysis of that document suggested that the Euro price point for the presumed S24 will begin at €899 – about $985 U.S.– with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus starting at €1,169 or close to $1,281.
In that above video, CyboTech reports that if anyone just has to have this new S24 series, they can reserve one ahead of time, plus can get a $50 discount on it by visiting Samsung's website and providing their name and email address.
“You can expect some perks like getting double the storage for free and receiving a discount coupon for either the Galaxy Buds Fe or the Galaxy watch depending on where you were located,” CyboTech said.
“It's a good incentive to pre-order if you're interested in those accessories.”
